Witness to China's Qin Terracotta Warrior Army>>Destruction of the China Qin Clay Army

Destruction of the China Qin Clay Army

Archaeological excavations show that Pits No. 1 and No. 2 were destroyed after a fire. Only five years after the First Emperor was layed in his elaborate mausoleum, peasant revolts erupted. The rebellion was soon followed here and there led by lords from the six kingdoms the autarch had conquered. An ambitious general called Xiang Yu took the chance to loot the underground Qin Clay army, sacked the weapons clay figures hold and smashed the terracotta statues into pieces, after that set a fire.

Despite of this however, much of the remains of the Terracotta Army still survive, surrounded by remnants of the burnt wooden structures. And there is no evidence up till now that the grand mausoleum itself has ever been plundered.
